Duddingston Village- escape to a quiet part of Edinburgh!

Duddingston Village- escape to a quiet part of Edinburgh!

A scenic walk in Holyrood Park, the perfect ingredient for health and wellbeing.

In the shadow of a volcano, we take a short walk through the Royal Park to Edinburgh’s largest natural loch and Duddingston village.  The village is a little hidden gem which, despite changes over the centuries, has managed to retain a quiet rural setting. Our meander will include the village itself, a peaceful churchyard and a picturesque garden before returning along the tracks of the former Innocent railway.

The attractions you will see include:

  • Arthur’s Seat
  • Holyrood Park
  • Prestonfield House
  • Duddingston Loch
  • Duddingston Kirk, 12th century church reputedly one of the oldest still in use in Scotland
  • Duddingston church graveyard with some surprising items!
  • Thomson’s Tower
  • Dr Neil’s Garden
  •  The Sheep Heid Inn
  • Bonnie Prince Charlie House

Further optional attractions.

  • Lunch at the Sheep Heid Inn, which claims to be the oldest surviving pub in Scotland. The late Queen Elizabeth II had dinner here, though she made no use of the skittle alley, one of Scotland’s few remaining pub skittle alleys
